Good results for italian boys and girls in cross country
This morning was encouraging for Italian athletes who enjoyed good results, some of them could reach the podium, others were just behind. Martina Piller Roner, instead, ranked only 19th in the first run (Category 1 girls) ahead of Luigina and Eleonora Fauner, respectively daughter and niece of the Olympic champion Silvio Fauner.
In Category 1 boys, Luca Ghiglione’s performance was remarkable (12'03''8), but he came in second and the gold medal went to the French athlete Villard De Lans. We met Luca at the end of the run, we congratulated him on the good result and asked some questions on his sport career. He told us: “I can train very often, since I live close to the slopes. I would like to thank my trainer Alessandro Gares, I owe this result to him”. Luca has already gained a second place at the Trofeo Topolino and hopes to equal Petter Northug’s achievements. He also expressed his satisfaction for the event organization.
Ilary Rastelli came in 5th in Category 2 girls, she was the best among the Italian athletes.
Matteo Tanel, from Bronzolo near Bozen, won the first place in Category 2 boys beating German and French athletes with a time of 17'03''7 and a lead of 6''3 over the the silver medal winner. He was happy and smiling at the end of the competition and told us that he trained hard every day on the slopes in Vinschgau to reach this result. As his colleague Luca, Matteo appreciated the competition venues and the organization of the event and he finally revealed us his personal sport hero: Giorgio di Centa.
Matthias Peer, the Italian champion from Trento, finished in a respectable 6th position.
In today’s competitions in Passo Coe we will have to chance to see our young athtletes running for success on the cross-country tracks.
